Our History

In Flight was founded in 2004 as a mobile gymnastics program servicing; Daycares, Private Schools, Cheer leading Squads, After School Programs and Several Private Organizations.  As there was a need for a stationary site for skill development, we landed in the Decatur/Lithonia area at Browns Mill Recreation Center (2006) and helped the youth in the community “Reach for the Stars”!

2006-2007

  • We began competing with 1 competition and with only 3 gymnasts this year.  

  • In April, we had our First Annual End of the Year Recital. All of our Lady Bugs and Butterflies had a blast!

  • Added Circus Arts Classes

2007-08

  •  Our team grew to 10 Competitive gymnasts and 7 Pre Team Gymnasts.

  • Several of our girls qualified for State Championships and placed All-Around.

  • First Annual Maxam Challenge Competition

2008-09

  • New In Flight Gymnastics Exhibition Team. This team consisted of former competitive gymnasts, current competitors and pre team gymnasts. We visited local schools and YMCA’s to give the girls a chance to show off their skills in a fun and exciting way.

  • Our competitive season was our best yet, 70% of our competitive team qualified for state!

2009-10

  • Moved into our very own facility!

  • All of our Level 2 & 3 Gymnasts qualified for State Championships and performed very well.

  • 6 out of 9 of our Prep Opt Gymnasts qualified for Nationals held in Orlando, FL

2010-11

  •  All of our Gymnasts qualified for State Championships!!!

  • In Flight Gymnast, Ashlee Williams, was named the 2011 Level 3 State Beam Champion!

  • 13 of our Gymnasts competed in the SEC-AAU Regional Competition held in Charlotte, NC.

  • 3 out of the 4 awarded Level 3 – All American Awards were earned by In Flight Gymnasts:  Nya Foster (Vault) and Jordan Leverette (Beam and Floor).

  • 11 Gymnasts Qualified for the AAU National Competition in Orlando, FL.  We had 5 – 2nd Place Champions and several Gymnasts placed in the top 5 of their age group!!!

  • In Flight Youth Circus Troupe performed alongside ELEMENT  for several events including Atlanta’s High Museum for the Salvedore Dali Opening!!!

2011-12

  • Once again, the entire In Flight Team Qualified for State!!!

  • Our Prep Opt Beginner Team placed 4th in the State!

  • Jordan Leverette placed 1st All-Around and on 3 out of 4 events at State Championships! (Age 8)

  • Teri Hiley placed 1st on Vault at State Championships in her Age Group! (Age 11)

  • Camryn Graham Placed 1st on Vault at State Championships in her Age Group! (Age 10)

  • Kyla Little Placed 1st on Uneven Bars at State Championships in her Age Group! (Age 10)

  • 7 of our Gymnasts competed in the SEC-AAU Regional Competition held in Ft. Myers, FL.

  • All 7 of our Modified Optional Gymnasts qualified for the National Competition.

  • The Youth Ensemble performed for the Piedmont Hospital Medical Foundation.

  • We hosted our 1st Annual A Starry Night Jr Gala…it was a huge success!  See video on the Take Flight Page

2012-13

  • Nyla Loyd placed 1st All-Around and on 4 out of 4 events at State Championships! (Age 7)

  • Camryn Graham Placed 1st on Balance Beam and Floor at State Championships in her Age Group! (Age 11)

  • Kyla Little Placed 1st on Uneven Bars at State Championships in her Age Group! (Age 11)

  • 5 of our Gymnasts have qualified to  compete in the SEC-AAU Regional Competition held in Charleston, SC – Memorial Day Weekend.

  • All 5 of our Modified Optional Gymnasts have qualified for the National Competition.

  • Kyla Little (Age 11) is the REGIONAL Balance Beam Champion for ages 11 & under!!! – Charleston, SC

  • Nyla Loyd (Age 7) is the New NATIONAL Vault Champion for ages 8 & under!!! – Orlando, FL

  • Camryn Graham took home the Silver Medal (2nd Place) on Floor at NATIONALS!!! 12 Year old Age Group – Orlancdo, FL

  • Camryn Graham, also, took home the Bronze Medal (3rd Place) on Uneven Bars at NATIONALS!!!  12 Year old Age Group – Orlando, FL

  • The Youth Ensemble performed for the Junior Diabetes Walk, The Hunger Walk and The BB&T Foundation.

2013-14

  • Kyla Little Place 1st All Around at the GA State Championships! (Prep Opt 2 – Age 12)

  • Kurstin Walden grabbed 2nd Place on Balance Beam and Floor at the GA State Championships! (Prep Beginner – Age 8)

  • Rashun Isaac – 3rd Place medal for Floor at the GA State Championships! (Prep Opt 1 – Age 7)

  • We had 8 Gymnasts who qualified and competed at the SEC AAU Regional Gymnastics Championships in Daytona, FL!

  • Kurstin Walden won the ALL-AMERICAN Award for Floor! ( Modified Novice – Age 8)

  • Jordan Geter won the ALL-AMERICAN Award for Balance Beam! ( Modified Novice – Age 8)

  • All 8 Gymnasts also qualified for Nationals in Orlando, FL!

  • Our Youth Circus Troupe haas members who performed for Porsche, Shoes for Shelter and Rollins Orkin Holiday Event!

  • Camryn Graham was chosen to perform an acrobatic piece at the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival!  She performed before an audience of 2000 people!!! (See her video above)

2014-15

  • All of our gymnasts qualified for State and Regionals.  7 Gymnasts qualified to compete in the National Competition in Las Vegas

  • We received Non-Profit Status for our competitive team and circus troupe.

  • We became an official partner of Cirque du Soleil

  • We awarded 2 scholarships to deserving athletes.  We still have 2 more to give away!

  • Nyla Loyd Place 1st All Around at the GA State Championships! (Xcel Gold – Age 9)

  • Morgan Watkins  1st Place Vault and Uneven Bars & 2nd Place All Around at the GA State Championships! (Level 1 – Age 5)

  • J’Dythe Cannon 1st Place on Uneven Bars at the GA State Championships! (Xcel Bronze – Age 11)

  • Shamiya Camphor 2nd Place All-Around at SEC Regionals Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida (Xcel Bronze – Age 8)

  • Rashun Isaac competed in the 9-11 Division at Age 8.  She placed 2nd All-Around at SEC Regionals Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida (Xcel Silver – Age 8)

  • Nyla Loyd competed in the 11 & up Division at Age 9.  She placed 4th All Around at SEC Regionals Championships in Daytona Beach Florida.

  • Coach Derrin Moore was awarded the 2015 Coach of the Year Award at AAU SEC Regional Championships

  • The Youth Circus Troupe was chosen to perform at the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival.  This is the 2nd Year in a Row that In Flight has been chosen to represent our gym at the Festival!

2015-16

  • We started the Fit 2 Learn Program and offered transportation to local Elementary and Middle Schools.

  • All of our gymnasts qualified for State.  13 Qualified for Regionals.  7 Gymnasts qualified to compete in the National Competition in Orlando, FL

  • Anaiah Cone Placed 1st All Around at the GA State Championships! (Xcel Bronze – Age 7)

  • Malia Whitley  1st Place Vault and Uneven Bars & 2nd Place All Around at the GA State Championships! (Xcel Bronze – Age 9). 

  • Jordan Geter 1st Place on Uneven Bars and 2nd Place All Around at the GA State Championships! (Xcel Silver – Age 11)

  • Shamiya Camphor 2nd Place All-Around at Nationals Championships in Orlando, Florida (Xcel Silver – Age 10)

  • Rashun Isaac 1st Place All-Around at SEC Nationals Championships in Orlando, Florida (Xcel Silver – Age 8)
